Director / Coach
Sarah Johnson is a native Texan, born in downtown San Antonio. She established Bulverde Volleyball 7 years ago, and under her leadership, along with the support of our coaches and the community, the club continues to grow, providing an opportunity for athletes to excel in volleyball. She believes sports are a key element to cultivate positive traits, for example, teamwork, determination, & responsibility, in our youth to help them become successful adults. She enjoys working with youth, and is so excited to see Bulverde Volleyball continue to be a positive light for the athletes it serves.
She has 9 years of coaching experience. Parents of athletes that Sarah has coached have described her as a natural at coaching, that she possesses a gift of connecting with her players which is something you can't teach.
Her passion for volleyball started in middle school. She also played in high school and received many recognitions. Her high school coach has stated that it was an honor to coach someone with such drive and talent. She went on to attend college at the University of Texas where she played Collegiate Club Volleyball for UT while earning a Bachelor degree. Hook em' Horns! She has played indoor and sand volleyball her entire life. Volleyball is her passion and she is thrilled to share her enthusiasm and knowledge of the sport with her players. Her motto is, Play Hard. Be Positive. Never Quit.
Amanda Hogan was born & raised in Texas. She has a bachelors degree in Exercise Science from Schreiner University where she played collegiate volleyball. She has continued playing both indoor & sand volleyball since graduating. Amanda is currently a teacher & coach at Pieper Ranch Middle School and has been coaching volleyball for 14 years. She is excited to be coaching the 12U age group!
Shelbie Mitchell is a native of Cibolo, Texas. She started her playing career at the age of 13, graduating from Byron P. Steele II High School, where she played three years of varsity volleyball. She was a recipient of Academic All District all three years and her senior year, she was selected for the end of season All Tournament team. She received her BBA in Marketing from Texas A&M University-San Antonio.
Shelbie has a passion for developing confident, strong-minded athletes. Her coaching career started ten years ago and has since mentored various age groups with different levels of play. She began her club coaching career at SA Elite, moving to TCVA, and now calls Bulverde Volleyball her home. Aside from coaching club ball, she also coached at Trinity Christian Academy as the Varsity and Middle School Head Volleyball Coach, St. Luke’s Episcopal School as the 7th & 8th Grade Head Volleyball Coach, and Incarnate Word High School as the Varsity Track & Field Coach.
Shelbie uses to her upbeat coaching style to empower young athletes to be the best versions of themselves on and off the court. Bulverde Volleyball is thrilled to have Shelbie as part of our coaching family!
Lauren Wharton was born in League City, Houston, TX and moved to San Antonio when she was 7 years old. Coach Lauren started playing volleyball very young playing for the YMCA and several club teams growing up. She attended high school at Douglas MacArthur and played varsity volleyball and softball. She also attended San Antonio community College and played on the volleyball team there for 2 years. The positions she has played include setter, outside and right-side hitter, and libero. She has recently earned a Child Development Associates Degree and is currently a Pre-Kindergarten teacher for Pinnacle Kids Academy. Her passion is teaching young children and helping them grow and learn and coaching volleyball. She has been coaching volleyball for 3 years. She is a huge people person and loves to make connections with others. When she's not coaching she is being a mom for her 9 year old son named Gage. He is the JOY in her life! You can also catch her on the sand volleyball courts. Coach Lauren's favorite quote is "Look for something positive in each day, even if some days you have to look a little harder". She feels she can help with youth development through her positive personality and encouragement of never giving up. She loves to watch players grow and it gives her so much joy to get to watch them succeed!
Hello Bulverde Family,
My name is Jasmine Dears born and raised in San Antonio Texas. I graduated from William J. Brennan HS. I started playing competitive volleyball at age 12, and continued playing Club for 5+ years. Throughout my three years of high school varsity I was awarded 2nd team all district twice my Sophomore year & Junior year.
I played at Missouri Valley College on a volleyball scholarship playing two seasons as Middle/RS.
Off the Court, I am a proud mother of two little girls that I spend all my free-time with, we enjoy walks at the park, swimming, bike rides, and having girls time!
This is my 2nd year coaching here at Bulverde and am More than ecstatic to share my energy and skills with your child. I can’t wait to cheer on your child’s success Throughout this season! My favorite quote is RUN when you can, WALK if you have to, CRAWL if you must; just NEVER GIVE UP!! #GOBULVERDEGO
Kim grew up in Hutto, Texas and started playing volleyball in 7th grade and hasn't stopped since. She loves all sports and while in high school was a 4-year letterman in 3 sports! She played volleyball at the collegiate level at Texas State University and Angelo State University. She began her coaching career at Marble Falls High School where she took the team to playoffs for the first time in the school's history. She also was the Head Volleyball Coach for Howard Payne University for 2 years and earned Coach of the Year in 2001. She currently is a 2nd grade teacher at Bill Brown Elementary - she was recently named "Teacher of the Year". Her enthusiasm and energy as a teacher in and out of the classroom can't be beat! Kim has been a Coach with Bulverde Volleyball for 7 years. Her motto is, Perseverance is the hard work you do after the hard work you already did.
