Director / Coach

Sarah Johnson is a native Texan, born in downtown San Antonio.  She established Bulverde Volleyball 6 years ago, and under her leadership, along with the support of our coaches and the community, the club has grown each year, providing an opportunity for athletes to excel in volleyball.  She believes sports are a key element to cultivate positive traits, for example, teamwork, determination, & responsibility, in our youth to help them become successful adults.  She enjoys working with youth, and is so excited to see Bulverde Volleyball continue to be a positive light for the athletes it serves.

She has 9 years of coaching experience.  Parents of athletes that Sarah has coached have described her as a natural at coaching, that she possesses a gift of connecting with her players which is something you can't teach. 

Her passion for volleyball started in middle school.  She also played in high school and received many recognitions.  Her high school coach has stated that it was an honor to coach someone with such drive and talent.  She went on to attend college at the University of Texas where she played Collegiate Club Volleyball for UT while earning a Bachelor degree.  Hook em' Horns! She has played indoor and sand volleyball her entire life.  Volleyball is her passion and she is thrilled to share her enthusiasm and knowledge of the sport with her players.  Her motto is, Play Hard.  Be Positive.  Never Quit.




Phyllis Fowler is no stranger to our area, she is a New Braunfels native and attended Smithson Valley High School where she graduated #2 in her class. She played volleyball at Wharton County Junior College where her team made it to the NJCAA nationals and she was named NJCAA All-American.  She then transferred to Texas Lutheran College (now Texas Lutheran University) and continued playing volleyball and eventually  graduated with a  Bachelor's degree from Texas State University and also earned a Master's degree from Texas A&M Kingsville.Coach Fowler's amazing 38 years of coaching experience includes public school, private school, 20 years of club coaching, and she is starting her 3rd year as Head Coach at TLU.  Her teams' successes include 6 UIL state appearances including 1 SILVER medal finalists and 2 GOLD medal state championships at New Braunfels High School.  In 2016, she also led Navarro High School to its first UIL state appearance for the first time since 1976.  She has received many coaching honors including, 3 time TGCA All-Star Coach, 2 Time SA Express News Coach of the Year, TAVC All Star Coach, and Legends Honor Coach.  Coach Fowler is a winner, but she's always been about more than just winning.  She is a great teacher of the game and a great mentor to young women.  We are excited and extremely honored to have her join our coaching team.   




Amanda Hogan was born & raised in Texas. She has a bachelors degree in Exercise Science from Schreiner University where she played collegiate volleyball. She has continued playing both indoor & sand volleyball since graduating. Amanda is currently a teacher & coach at Pieper Ranch Middle School and has been coaching volleyball for 13 years. She is excited to be coaching the 12U age group!

Shelbie Mitchell is a native of Cibolo, Texas, having graduated from Byron P. Steele II High School, where she played three years of varsity volleyball. She received her BBA in Marketing from Texas A&M University-San Antonio. She has been coaching club volleyball for 10 years, and has coached varying age groups and levels of play. Aside from coaching club ball, she also coached two consecutive seasons at Trinity Christian Academy as the Varsity and Middle School Head Coach, St. Luke’s Episcopal School as the middle school 7th & 8th grade volleyball Head Coach, as well  Track & Field Coach at Incarnate Word High School. Shelbie currently works for a broadcast equipment manufacturing company in San Antonio, where she resides. Bulverde Volleyball is thrilled to welcome Shelbie to our coaching family!




Norrelle Mitchell is a native of San Antonio, Texas.  She graduated from Brennan High School where she played varsity volleyball for 3 years.  She competed at the collegiate level for Our Lady of The Lake University (OLLU) as a Defensive Specialist.  While playing at OLLU, her team made 2 appearances at the NAIA Championships and Norrelle earned 2 NAIA Conference Championship Rings in 2016 and 2017!  She is currently earning a degree in Psychology at UTSA.  Once she earns her degree, she will be applying for nursing school to pursue a career as an RN.  She enjoys working with youth and has coached club volleyball teams for 4 years.  She resides in San Antonio with her 3 children and her fiance, Aaron.   Bulverde Volleyball is thrilled to welcome Norrelle to our coaching team!!!

Lauren was born and raised in San Antonio, where her passion for volleyball started very young. Lauren started playing when she was 7, and quickly discovered her love for the game. Lauren played club from ages 11 to 18 from a hitter to a setter and a defensive specialist. She played as the libero in high school at Smithson Valley, before going on to play at Cameron University, a Division II college in the Lone Star Conference. Lauren holds the school record for the most digs in a season, and also earned First-Team All Conference and All-Academic honors. She then was picked up by Division I college, where she unfortunately had to cut her own volleyball career short due to an injury. Now as a full-time realtor, Lauren has discovered her passion for coaching by previously coaching with SA Force and SA Magic.  She is a strong believer in God and knows though Christ all things are possible. She is excited to be a part of Bulverde this year and to spread the love of volleyball and God to her team.

Lindsey is a San Antonio native who fell in love with volleyball at just 9 years old. She played club from age 11 to 18 for Maverick as a Outside and defensive specialist from middle school through high school. Lindsey was on the 2011-2012 Johnson High School varsity team that took 3rd at State for 6A. After graduating from high school, Lindsey pursued a degree in journalism from Texas A&M where she also played on the A&M club team for two years and then was an assistant coach for Aggie Elite Club for two years. After graduating, moving back to San Antonio and getting married, Lindsey and her husband Kyle privately coached sand volleyball players as young as 8 in Spring Branch. Lindsey has been Lauren’s assistant coach for the last two years, first with Magic and then with Ignite. She believes volleyball can teach kids valuable life lessons and skills. Lindsey works as a full time journalist for the San Antonio Report as the science and utilities reporter. She hopes to work hard with her girls this season and show them that a positive attitude and spirit can make all the difference. She is super excited about being with Bulverde's 131’s team!

Amy Day is currently the Head Volleyball Coach at Bracken Christian School. Amy comes to Bulverde Volleyball with 9 years of coaching success. She started as a middle school coach and quickly advanced to JV and then Varsity, each year helping her teams to succeed. Since taking over the volleyball program at Bracken Christian School her varsity team has been District Champs for the past 4 years and recently, in her second year as a Varsity Coach, the Lady Warriors at Bracken competed at the State level and brought home the 2nd in State trophy. In addition to coaching in the school setting, Amy has been involved in Club volleyball for 13 years, coaching 11u-18u teams. She believes communication, encouragement, self-confidence, commitment, respect, dependability, dedication, and attitude are the attributes of a winning team.

Kim grew up in Hutto, Texas and started playing volleyball in 7th grade and hasn't stopped since.  She loves all sports and while in high school was a 4-year letterman in 3 sports!  She played volleyball at the collegiate level at Texas State University and Angelo State University.  She began her coaching career at Marble Falls High School where she took the team to playoffs for the first time in the school's history.  She also was the Head Volleyball Coach for Howard Payne University for 2 years and earned Coach of the Year in 2001.  She currently is a 2nd grade teacher at Bill Brown Elementary - she was recently named "Teacher of the Year".  Her enthusiasm and energy as a teacher in and out of the classroom can't be beat!  Kim has been a Coach with Bulverde Volleyball for 5 years.  Her motto is, Perseverance is the hard work you do after the hard work you already did.
